Health
Health and development are inextricably linked. Investment in health benefits individuals, families, communities, and economies by improving people’s ability to learn and lead productive lives. Disease, poor family planning, and inadequate health services rob developing countries of human and economic resources. Malnutrition, unclean water and sanitation, and limited access to resources and information lead to poor health outcomes. Sustainable development works across all sectors to reduce these vulnerabilities.

Our health practice applies experience and competencies from all other sectors to address health challenges using integrated and multisectoral approaches. We create innovative partnerships and techniques to improve primary health care delivery systems; empower communities to improve their health status; and equip local providers and organizations to provide high-quality, affordable, relevant healthcare. We are committed to stewarding knowledge and actively share creative solutions to health and development issues with the international health community through common forums.
  • Private Sector Approaches: We increase affordable, high-quality health care for individuals, families, and communities by engaging the private sector. We equip private sector providers with business skills, create innovative public-private partnerships, develop workplace health initiatives, and raise awareness of the power and potential of private sector solutions.

  • Community Mobilization: We scale up health initiatives nationally by empowering communities, nongovernmental organizations, and private voluntary organizations to identify barriers and solutions to access, availability, and quality of health care, primarily through the Champion Community approach. In this approach, community leaders and members use health information to set realistic community health targets, identify and implement concrete actions to improve their health status, and are rewarded for their achievements and recognized nationally.

  • Health Systems Improvement: We improve primary health care services by setting realistic, achievable goals with local partners and working closely with national counterparts; setting appropriate norms and standards for clinic services and sites; providing associated clinic training and supportive supervision; and strengthening health care commodity forecasting, logistics, and supply chain and management information systems.

  • Capacity Building: To ensure lasting improvements in people’s health, we support indigenous not-for-profit, commercial, and government health organizations by enhancing their capacity to meet performance objectives and attain financial independence. We do this through operations research; diagnostics and organizational development solutions; training and mentoring; quality assurance approaches, such as performance and quality improvement; and monitoring and evaluation.
